To the un-indoctrinated, Robert Smith is the publicity-shy private equity billionaire who made news for paying off Morehouse grads’ debt this year. I had a chat about him with Bev yesterday and remembered I’ve got notes from one of his talks. I would reference the talk here but really don’t remember which one it is. Pretty simple advice on building yourself for the future.
Develop your mind- Intelligence can create huge profits. Importance of developing intellectual property cannot be underestimated. intellectual property— no one can take that from you and its constantly evolving and takes no capital.
Trust yourself- Trust yourself even when others don’t. Other people want the best for you and people would call you crazy. We take risks, do things differently
Know your self worth- Self explanatory.
Act on your intentions- Make sure that beyond the intention, you have the actions. don’t say you want to be a millionaire but don’t act like you want to be one. Put consistent acting behind that vision. And it has to be consistent. The importance of knowing that it’s your intentions that can lead to the outcome you want to manifest
Dream big- Dream f*cking big.
Be committed to your career- Sponsors to your career need to know you’re committed to this idea. Demonstrate thats who you are. Be dedicated to your craft. Do you have the necessary grit? Need to be seen putting that level of energy in
Find your drive- What’s your motivation? What pushes you?
Enjoy figuring things out- Ask questions. Be curious. Enjoy thinking through things. And find out the solutions to problems
Perfect your craft- Do things and become expert at it. Spend as much time as possible in doing what you want. Need mentors- people who have lived it and force engagement on them. Seek their advice and understanding. Figure things like that out. Rewards would be exponential
Develop grit- If you get too much help, you don’t understand how to do things yourself. If you can’t solve easy problems now, you can’t solve difficult problems later.
